The Virtual40 duathlon series is a simple duathlon event that anyone can take part in. They take place every Tuesday and results need to be posted by 10pm at the latest on the day of the event.
How does it work?
The format is very simple and the whole event lasts 40 minutes. For each event, you will need to bike (indoors) and run outdoors (or indoors on treadmill). Your change time or 'transition' between bike and run can be no more than 10 minutes.
On the evening before each event, you will be notified of the time split between bike and run. For example, the split may be 22 minutes bike and 18 minutes run to total 40 minutes.
The cycle section:
For the cycle section you will need an indoor trainer or wattbike and the workout can be done on zwift or similar, so long as you can record distance. You should warm up then ride as far as you can within the given timescale and record the distance. You'll need to take a picture of your watch or computer showing the distance covered in the specified timescale and the 'time of day' that you completed the workout.
The run section:
You have a maximum of 10 minutes before you begin the run session. The run can be done outdoors or indoors on a treadmill. To run outdoors, your finish point must be no more than 200m from your start point. The easiest way to achieve this is to run for half of the time, then turn and run back. You'll need to take a picture of your watch or Strava to show the distance covered, route and time of day. If you use a treadmill, your time will be listed in a separate category.
Once you have completed the event, you should complete our online form, add your times and upload your evidence. Full results will be published the following day.
Children can also take part with the Virtual20 event. Same rules apply, but only 20 minutes of activity.
